Kings International Medical Academy's Plastic Ban Rally: A Message of Hope for the Environment

The students of Kings International Medical Academy have taken a significant step towards creating a better and healthier environment by organizing a rally on banning plastic on March 25th 2023. The initiative is commendable, and it sends a strong message to the community about the dangers of plastic and the need for more sustainable alternatives.

Plastic bags have been a major contributor to environmental pollution and degradation. They are non-biodegradable, which means they do not decompose easily, and when they do, they release harmful chemicals into the environment. Plastic bags take up to hundreds of years to decompose, and during this time, they pose a severe threat to our oceans, wildlife, and ecosystems. The consequences of plastic pollution are dire, and it is high time we take action to mitigate this problem.

In this regard, the use of paper and cloth bags can be a practical and viable solution. Paper bags are biodegradable and recyclable, which means they can be easily decomposed without harming the environment. Cloth bags, on the other hand, are durable, reusable, and eco-friendly. They can be washed and used multiple times, reducing the need for single-use plastic bags. Switching to paper and cloth bags can be a simple yet effective way to reduce plastic pollution.

Furthermore, the benefits of using paper and cloth bags extend beyond environmental sustainability. Paper bags are cheaper to produce than plastic bags and can be easily recycled, contributing to a circular economy. Cloth bags, although initially more expensive than plastic bags, are durable and can last for years, making them a cost-effective alternative in the long run.

With the efforts of Ms. Valarmathi Yasvanthrao, the chairman of Mahabalipuram municipality, Mr. Yasvanthrao, Assistant Director, E.O., Mrs. Durkashini Sathya, 14th ward councillor, Ms. Manju, 10th ward councillor and under the guidance of Dr. David K Pillai, the chairman of Kings International Medical Academy and Transworld Educare, this campaign was held successfully.

In conclusion, the rally organized by the students of Kings International Medical Academy on banning plastic bags is a significant step towards creating a sustainable and healthier environment. The use of paper and cloth bags instead of plastic bags can be a simple yet effective way to reduce plastic pollution and create a more sustainable future. We should all take responsibility for our actions and do our part in reducing plastic waste by adopting more sustainable alternatives.
