Yesterday, on June 27, the National Medical Commission (NMC) organized a webinar to discuss the National Exit Test (NExT) examination in detail. The webinar was aimed at addressing final-year MBBS students and medical colleges. During the webinar, various aspects of the NExT examination were revealed, including its phases, mock test date, papers, and exam schedule.

The NExT exam will consist of two phases, one in May and another in November. The first batch of students eligible for the examination will be those admitted in 2019. The exam will be divided into two stages, with NExT Step 1 focusing on theory exams and NExT Step 2 focusing on practical, oral, and clinical assessments.

NExT Step 1 will comprise six subject papers, each with a specific weightage in terms of items and time allocation. The papers will be conducted over a period of five days, with a one-day gap between each paper. Three of the papers will have a duration of three hours, while the rest will have a duration of 1.5 hours.

The purpose of the NExT Step 1 mock test is to familiarize prospective candidates with the Computer Based Test (CBT) software interface and the process flow at the examination centre. NExT Step 2 will involve seven subject papers.

The NExT Step 1 mock test, or practice test, is scheduled to take place on July 28, 2023. Registration for the mock test will begin today. Only final-year students pursuing MBBS courses in medical colleges or institutions are eligible to participate in the mock/practice test. AIIMS Delhi will be the designated authority for conducting the NExT Step 1 examination.
